Personal:
Dr. Stroheker grew up in Pennsylvania where he spent time camping and hiking in the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains. Upon his first trip to Colorado as a college student he said, "the West won me."
He met his wife, Betsy Thompson, in medical school where they were anatomy partners. He specialized in Family Practice and Betsy specialized in Internal Medicine and went on to get a Masters and Doctoral Degree in Public Health. She also trained with the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Center for Disease Control.
They have two daughters, Lena born in 1993 and Helen born in 1996.
Before moving to Salida in 2003, Dr. Stroheker participated in adolescent and child development in sports activities. He has also been involved with "Rails to Trails" projects, community recycling programs, and litter clean-up activities.
Personal interests include mountaineering, backpacking, back country skiing, marathon ski racing, and bike centuries (100 mile rides).
